ARCHITECTS JOURNAL COMPETITION
Little do people realise that the Square Mile in London has been home to the world's biggest & most ambitious secret since 2004...It has been facilitating the launch of the Gherkin Program and it's future mission to space. In a joint venture between the European Space Agency & the UK Space Agency the Gherkin Program literally aims to take Architecture to new heights & push the frontiers.
To envisage an underground space for a British monument was the brief for the competition set by Architects Journal. While this is somewhat of a humorous take on an iconic piece of British architecture it also looks to address issues of land usage. Land is a finite resource of which when depleted asks the question, where does construction go when there is no space left? Maybe the answer is literally out of this world...
